THE EXHIBITION AND POSTAGE STAMPS "VIEW OF THE SKY"
The exhibition View of the sky has been organised in occasion of the 150th Anniversary of meteorological measurements in Zagreb and the 100th Anniversary of the Zagreb astronomical observatory. Marking of such anniversaries serves to enhance and expand the knowledge about meteorology and astronomical observations in the wider social community.
The exhibition was held at the Zagreb city museum, Opatička 20, from February 17 to March 3, 2003. The organisers of the exhibition were the Croatian meteorological Society, the Zagreb astronomical observatory, the Museum of the City of Zagreb, and the Philatelist’s Club August Šenoa. Historical meteorological and astronomical exhibits showed the measuring instruments, data, books and documents from the Geophysical Institute of Zagreb University, the Astronomical Observatory and the Faculty of Geodesy in Zagreb.
The Croatian Post Office has issued commemorative postage stamps and a commemorative First Day Cover. Stamps were designed by Krešimir Grancarić. The first postage stamp is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of meteorological measurements in Zagreb and 50th anniversary of the high-altitude meteorological station on Zavižan, and the second one is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the astronomical observatory in Zagreb.
The exhibition View of sky was one of the most visited exhibitions of the Zagreb city museum. More than 200 people were present at the opening ceremony. A lot of school have organised visits to the exhibition and many citizens saw it. Local radio, TV stations and newspaper have reported on the exhibition.
The exhibition View of sky turned to be one of the best ways of showing the importance of meteorology in history and as well as in our every day life.
