THE OCCASIONAL ENVELOPE FOR THE WORLD METEOROLOGICAL DAY
Every year the Croatian Meteorological Society celebrate the World meteorological day organising a lot of activities promoting meteorology on radio and television, giving popular lectures in schools, writing newspaper articles about meteorology and its role in society.
Among the most popular activities is issuing the occasional envelope with special postmark. Graphical design on the envelope includes names of editors (Croatian Meteorological Society and Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Croatia) and the theme of the World meteorological day. Every year the whole edition is sold out due to considerable interest of collectors and meteorologists.
The occasional envelope raised up special attention after the recognition of the Republic of Croatia. The greatest demand is for the 1992 envelope with the first postmark of the Republic of Croatia, which illustrate the meteorological station damaged in the war operations.
During the 1994 the edition of special envelope was accompanied with the philatelic exhibition Meteorology on stamps in the central post in Zagreb. The 1998 envelope with the theme Weather, oceans and human activities is considered as the most successful one among the philatelists.
The Croatian Meteorological Society envelopes and postmarks have been among the most popular parts of numerous collections and exhibitions. The envelopes have played (and are still playing) an important role in promoting the meteorology and its role in everyday life.
