Spiridion Brusina Medal has been awarded to prof. dr. Vanda Grubišić

Croatian Society of Natural Sciences has decided to award the Spiridion Brusina Medal for 2015 to prof. dr. Vanda Grubišić, a Director of the Earth Observing Laboratory of Nacional Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, CO.

She has been honored for her contribution to Croatian science, for the promotion of Croatian science and for her scientific accomplishments in the field of meteorology (especially for the research of the mesoscale atmospheric dynamics and wind and precipitation processes over complex terrain). Along with her many years of working abroad, her research cooperation with Croatian scientists is very rich; with Deparment of Geophysics of the Faculty of Science, and the Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Croatia, in Zagreb. So far, about a dozen notable scientific papers were published with researchers of both institutions.

Prof. dr. Vanda Grubišić is the 17th recipient of the Spiridion Brusina Medal; she is the first female scientist and the first scientist from the field of meteorology to receive it.

Since 2006, prof. dr. Vanda Grubišić is a visiting professor of the graduate study of the Department of Geophysics of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. She teaches the Mesoscale Meteorology course, contributing to the overall quality of the graduate study and giving many research opportunities for Croatian students and young researchers.

The award was given by dr. Ognjen Milat, President of the Croatian Society of Natural Sciences.
